How can I pay my bill?

  • Updated

There are many ways you can pay your bills...

Pay by Direct Debit

To set up or change the Direct Debit details on your account, please complete the Direct Debit mandate online at dataenergy.co.uk/directdebit.

Please note that this option will not charge a specific amount each month, instead, payments will be taken on or around your invoice due date and will differ based on the total outstanding balance on the account. If you wish to pay a specific amount into your account to build up a credit over time, you can set up a standing order through your mobile banking app or by visiting your local branch. However, if the standing order payments were insufficient to cover your next invoice, further payment might be required to clear the account balance.

To cancel the Direct Debit instruction, please visit your bank's local branch or cancel through your mobile banking app. Data Energy cannot cancel the Direct Debit on your behalf. Please note, Direct Debit is not available for pre-payment customers.

Pay by Bank Transfer

Details to make a bank transfer can be found on the second page of your bill within "Payment Methods" section. Please use your unique account number as a payment reference.

Pay by Standing Order
A standing order is a regular payment you set up from your bank to us. You choose the date and the amount. Make sure the amount you set is enough to cover your typical energy use so your balance stays healthy.

How to set it up

1. Log in to your bank Use your mobile app or online banking. You can also call or visit your bank.
2. Pick “Standing order”
Choose Standing order or Regular payment. This isn’t a Direct Debit. You stay in control.
3. Enter our details
You’ll find our bank details on page 2 of your bill in Payment Methods. Copy them carefully.
4. Add your reference
Use your unique account number from your bill as the payment reference. This helps us match the payment to your account.
5. Choose your date
Pick a date that suits you, for example the day after payday.
6. Set the amount and confirm
Enter the amount and how often you want to pay, then confirm with your bank.

How to choose an amount that really covers your energy

Aim to spread your expected yearly cost across the year, so you’re not building debt.

If you’re new to us
- Check the annual estimate on your tariff card or welcome info.
- Divide it by 12 for a monthly amount.
- Add a small buffer for colder months.

If you were with us last year
- Look at last year’s total on your bills.
- Check if your current tariff is higher or lower. Adjust the total up or down to match.
- Divide the adjusted total by 12 for a monthly amount.
- Add a small buffer if you tend to use more in winter.
Quick example:
Annual estimate £1,200 → £1,200 ÷ 12 = about £100 per month.
If prices are 5% higher this year → £1,200 × 1.05 = £1,260 → about £105 per month.

Keep an eye on it
Check your balance every few months. If you’re falling behind with your balance, increase your standing order. If you’re building a healthy credit, you can reduce it. You can check your balance online with your customer portal account. You can change or cancel a standing order through your bank at any time.
