How can I pay my bill?

  • Updated

There are many ways you can pay your bill. Just choose the one that works best for you.

If you’re a pay-as-you-go customer, your billing works a little differently. Click here to find out more.

Direct Debit

You can set up a Direct Debit online at dataenergy.co.uk/directdebit.

A few things to know:

  • Payments are collected on or around the due date shown on your bill.
  • The amount taken will vary depending on the balance on your account – it won’t be a fixed monthly payment.
  • If you’d prefer to pay the same amount each month you can set up a Standing Order through your bank instead.

Changing or cancelling your direct debit:

  • If you’d like to change your bank details, please cancel your existing Direct Debit with your bank. You can then complete a new Direct Debit form at dataenergy.co.uk/directdebit.
  • To cancel your Direct Debit, please use your banking app or contact your bank directly. Unfortunately, we can’t cancel it for you.

Standing Order

This is a regular payment you arrange through your bank. You can choose the amount and date you’d like pay. Make sure the amount you set is enough to cover your typical energy use so your balance stays healthy.

How to set up a standing order:

  1. Log in to your online banking or banking app. (You can also call or visit your bank.)
  2. Select Standing Order or Regular Payment. This is different to a Direct Debit. You stay in control of how much you pay.
  3. Enter our bank details, which can be found on page 2 of your bill in ‘Payment Methods’.
  4. Use your account number as the payment reference.
  5. Choose a payment date.
  6. Enter the amount you’d like to pay regularly, and confirm the payment.

How much should I pay?

Your standing order amount is up to you. As a guide, many customers divide the estimated annual energy costs by 12 and pay that amount each month.

For example:

  • Estimated annual cost: £1,200
  • Monthly standing order: £100

Please remember that if your Standing Order payments don't cover the full balance on your account, you’ll need to pay any remaining amount separately. It’s a good idea to check your balance regularly through the Customer Portal If you’re falling behind with your balance, it’s a good idea to increase your standing order. If you’re building a healthy credit, you can reduce the standing order. You can check your balance online within your customer portal account (link). You can change or cancel a standing order through your bank at any time.

Pay by Bank Transfer

Details to make a bank transfer can be found on the second page of your bill within “Payment Methods” section.

When making a payment, please use your unique account number as the payment reference. This helps us make sure your payment is applied to the correct account.

Payments made by bank transfer can take a few hours to a few days to reflect in your account. If it still does not show up after this time, please contact our Customer Care team.
