What is a standing charge?

  • Updated

This is a daily charge that helps cover the fixed costs of running your Communal/District Supply Scheme.

In most cases, it includes the standing charge for the main energy meter from the energy supplier and any applicable VAT (typically 5%).

However, the exact costs included can vary depending on what the Building Owner or Managing Agent chooses to recover. In some rare cases, they may include other essential services too, such as:

  • HIU (Heat Interface Unit) maintenance
  • Meter replacement
  • Energy centre maintenance

Your total charge is worked out by multiplying the daily standing charge by the number of days in your billing period.
