What was the EBDS Energy Bills Discount Scheme?

  • Updated

The EBDS was a scheme introduced by the government, offering support to heat suppliers and landlords during the period 01/04/2023 - 31/03/2024. Support came in the form of a discount, which was applied to eligible gas and electricity supplies. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/energy-bills-discount-scheme

Further support was provided to energy used to supply heat networks (please click here for an explanation on heat networks). To receive this further support, the heat supplier was required to apply for the discount. If eligible for the discount, the energy supplier would backdate and recalculate charges for the applicable period. The heat supplier would then need to pass on this discount to their heat network customers.

Although this scheme has ended, a lot of suppliers have not yet applied the discount or recalculated charges, so if you are connected to a heat network and have not received your EBDS discount, this may be why.

When your discount is applied, Data Energy will also issue a letter to explain how this has been calculated and passed on. If you have received a letter from us and require further clarification, please get in touch with our Customer Care Team.
