Need instructions for your heating controls?
Your heating controls let you set when your heating and hot water come on and off, helping you keep your home comfortable and manage your energy use.
If you've lost the original manual for your heating controller, don't worry. It's usually easy to find a replacement online.
Step 1: Find the make and model
Start by looking for the make and model number on your heating controller.
You can often find this:
- Behind a front flap or cover
- On the side or bottom of the unit
- Inside the battery compartment
- On a label attached to the controller
Common brands include:
- Honeywell
- Drayton
- Danfoss
- Horstmann
- Siemens
- Salus
- Zenner
Model numbers are usually a mix of letters and numbers, such as:
- LP522
- TS715
- ST9400C
-
FP715
Step 2: Search for the manual online
Once you know the make and model, search online using terms such as:
- "Honeywell ST9400C manual"
- "Drayton LP522 instructions"
Many manufacturers provide free copies of their manuals on their websites.
Can't find the model number?
If the label is difficult to read, try taking a photo of the controller and use a reverse image search to look online for similar models.
Comparing the buttons, screen and layout can often help you identify the correct unit.
Common buttons and what they mean
Most heating controllers use similar terms:
| Button | What it does |
| AUTO | Runs your programmed schedule |
| ON | Keeps heating switched on |
| OFF | Turns heating off |
| ADVANCE | Moves to the next scheduled period |
| BOOST | Provides temporary heating |
| SET / PROG | Changes your schedule |
| + / - | Adjusts time or temperature |
Stay safe
Please don't remove any covers connected to the electrical supply unless you're confident it's safe to do so.
Never attempt to fix or tamper with the equipment yourself. If you're unsure, leave the equipment as it is and seek advice from a qualified engineer.
