How do I know if my home is connected to a heat network?

  • Updated

If your Data Energy bill shows charges for heat, cooling, or hot water, it is very likely that your property is connected to a heat network.

Other good indicators include:

  • A Heat Interface Unit (HIU) in your home – though these are sometimes mistaken for boilers.
  • A heat and/or cooling meter is installed in your home.
  • An energy centre or boiler room is located in the basement of your building.
  • References to a plant room, energy centre or HIU maintenance within your service charge.

What this means for you

  • If you see these signs, your heating and hot water are supplied through a shared heat network rather than an individual boiler.
  • Your Data Energy bill confirms whether this applies to your property.
