What is a Heat Interface Unit (HIU)?

  • Updated

A HIU (Heat Interface Unit) is normally located in your apartment’s utility cupboard. It performs two main functions:

  • Heat transfer: Moves heat from the building’s main pipe network (primary circuit) into your home (secondary circuit)
  • Metering: Records the exact amount of energy you use, measured in kWh, for billing purposes

Here’s an example of what a HIU might look like:

What this means for you

  • The HIU replaces the need for a boiler in your property.
  • Your energy use is measured accurately, so your bills reflect what you actually consume.
