A HIU (Heat Interface Unit) is normally located in your apartment’s utility cupboard. It performs two main functions:
- Heat transfer: Moves heat from the building’s main pipe network (primary circuit) into your home (secondary circuit)
- Metering: Records the exact amount of energy you use, measured in kWh, for billing purposes

What this means for you
- The HIU replaces the need for a boiler in your property.
- Your energy use is measured accurately, so your bills reflect what you actually consume.
