If you’ve recently received a bill from us, you may be wondering who we are and what we do.
Data Energy is your Metering and Billing Agent. We’re appointed by your Building Owner, Freeholder or Heat Supplier to look after the billing for the utilities supplied to your home.
Depending on your development, this could include heating, hot water, cooling, electricity, gas or water.
You can see exactly what you’re being charged for in the 'Bill Breakdown' section of your bill.
How do we calculate your bill?
Where possible we use actual meter readings to work out your charges.
If we don’t have a recent meter reading, we may use an estimate until an updated reading becomes available.
How can we help?
Our role is to make managing your account as simple as possible. We can help with:
- Sending your bills
- Collecting meter readings (where available)
- Processing payments
- Answering questions about your account or bills
- Managing changes of tenancy or ownership
- Setting up payment plans where appropriate
- Providing online account access through our Customer Portal
What Data Energy doesn't do (and who can help with other issues)
We love keeping your billing clear, fair and hassle-free but there are a few things that aren’t in our toolbox.
Here’s what we don’t handle, and what we can do to keep things moving smoothly:
-
We don’t supply your heat or energy.
That’s your Heat Supplier’s role. If something goes wrong, we’ll leap into action and work with them to help get it sorted but we can’t fix supply issues ourselves. -
We don’t own or repair your meters.
The metering equipment belongs to your Heat Supplier. Spot something unusual? Tell us and we’ll contact them on your behalf, but we can’t replace or repair meters directly. -
We can only visit your property once we’re authorised.
Even if it’s something we can help fix, we need the green light from your Heat Supplier before we head out. Safety and compliance first! -
We can’t change your tariff on our own.
The final say sits with your Heat Supplier. We do help them set fair, cost-recovery-only tariffs (never profit-making), but any amendments must come from them. -
We can’t adjust debt recovery rates on pay-as-you-go accounts.
Those settings are controlled by your Heat Supplier. We’re always happy to explain how the charges work, but we can’t tweak the rate ourselves. -
We can only help with the utilities we bill for.
Got electricity or issues with drinking water? Your respective utility providers will be the best people to speak to, but we’ll happily point you in the right direction. -
We can’t join Heat Trust.
Only Heat Suppliers can be members. Still, we follow the Heat Trust Scheme rules wherever possible, whilst also acting on instructions from your heat provider.
