In most developments, we collect meter readings remotely using a secure data collection system. This means you won't usually need to submit meter readings yourself.
How does it work?
Your meter is connected to a data logger through either a wired or wireless network. The data logger collects readings from one or more meters within your development. Larger developments may have more than one data logger.
The data logger then securely sends the readings to Data Energy using one of the following methods:
- GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) - a secure mobile data connection using the mobile phone network.
Fixed-line broadband with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) - a dedicated internet connection that encrypts your meter data, helping to keep it secure while it's transmitted.
What happens next?
Once received, the readings are processed by our billing team. This allows us to:
- Produce accurate bills based on your meter readings – so you only pay for the energy you’ve used.
- Monitor ongoing meter performance – so we can check that everything is working as it should do.
Maintain a detailed record of your meter data – so you have peace of mind.
Please note
If we're unable to collect readings remotely, we may ask you to provide a meter reading so we can ensure your bill is as accurate as possible.
